Lidzinji Primary School: First Classroom Building Nearly Complete - 23.10.2026

There is good news from Chepezi: the first classroom building of Lidzinji Primary School is almost finished. Frank Banda, board member of our local partner NGO, has visited the site several times in recent days to see how things are progressing. His verdict is encouraging. So far everything is on track; the building is looking great.
Only the finishing touches remain. The final coats of paint are currently going on the walls, inside and out. Beyond that, just a few minor points need attention. On one of his visits, Frank noticed that the security bars on the window of the future head teacher’s office are made from material that is too light and could be tampered with fairly easily. We are currently discussing with the contractor whether these bars can still be reinforced or replaced.

Meanwhile, work on the sanitation facilities is underway. On a further visit, this time together with a quantity surveyor, Frank saw that the pupils’ toilet blocks, with separate facilities for girls and boys, are already under construction, and roofing has begun. The teachers’ facilities will follow next.
The quantity surveyor’s involvement has a specific purpose. As an officially registered NGO, our local partner organisation is currently seeking an tax exemption on the remaining construction costs. We have engaged the surveyor to prepare the cost documentation so that everything submitted is complete and accurate. If the exemption is granted, more of every donation will go directly into the building work. We will report on the process and its outcome in a separate post.
The teachers and the people of Chepezi are following the construction closely and are very pleased with the quality and workmanship of the building. At the community meeting back in March, the chiefs and the school committee pledged to support the project throughout construction. Now they are watching the school take shape.
Oversight of the construction on site rests entirely with our Malawian partner organisation, and that is central to how we approach this project. We thank everyone involved for their commitment and look forward to keeping you updated on the progress.
