On March 7, 2025, we reported here on the blog once again about our coffee project “Nazareth Coffee.” From the first harvests we had taken several roasted samples back to Germany. The coffee tasted good, but showed some variation in flavor - not surprising, since in Mganja the beans are roasted manually in pans over an open fire, which naturally leads to different roast levels depending on the heat and duration.

After our most recent visit to Nazareth, we therefore brought back five kilograms of Arabica green coffee as an additional sample. As a potential partner for professional roasting and future marketing, we were able to win over Rainer Burkhardt from Impuls-Kaffeemanufaktur in Kiel (https://impuls-kaffeemanufaktur.de/). Rainer runs a fine coffee roastery in the heart of Kiel with a café and an online shop. The work of coffee farmers is especially important to him; on his website you can also find a short video in which he explains his philosophy and approach to coffee - highly recommended.

Rainer has now roasted the beans we brought with us. On December 1, 2025, Christiane and Markus met with him at his roastery in Kiel. During the joint tasting, everyone agreed: the coffee from Nazareth tastes excellent - light, balanced, and with a fine fruity note. With that, our Nazareth Coffee has passed its “sales test.”

Rainer is willing to roast and market the coffee in the future. The details are currently being discussed. A large share of the proceeds is intended to flow directly back to Mganja to support the families and the community there.

The next step is to determine how much coffee can be supplied sustainably and how transport to Germany can be organized as cost-effectively as possible.

If the project can be implemented on a permanent basis, it would create a reliable and independent source of income for the families in Nazareth - an important step toward economic self-reliance.

We will continue to report.
